Shakespeare Hotel: The central meeting place in town for workers was the Shakespeare Hotel. Its full of dreams, late night promises and the music of Tom T Hall, George Jones, Freddy Fender and Willie Nelson. The hotel slowly pulls the male character away from his family to a place where he can re-live a time when the world seemed big. This is the central song on the album. All other songs on ‘Any Old Love’ were either written with this song in mind or tweaked to keep within the other general themes.
- The majority of this song was again recorded live, including the main vocal. Strings were later added and were arranged by Geoff Wilkes.
Though he was uncredited, Steve Albini was behind the boards on this noise rock classic from the forever feral Jesus Lizard. Bandcamp New & Notable May 8, 2024
